Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about PicGrab.

What is PicGrab?

PicGrab is a browser extension for Chrome and Edge that finds every image on the page you're viewing and lets you download them in bulk. It catches more than other downloaders: CSS backgrounds, inline SVG, canvas, video posters, lazy-loaded and shadow-DOM images, and lets you filter by size, type and shape before saving.

Is it really free?

Yes. PicGrab is free, with no account, no subscription and no paywalled features.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome and Microsoft Edge, plus other Chromium-based browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions.

Does it work on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook?

Yes. PicGrab reads images directly from the page you're looking at, so it works across Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, X and almost any website. For infinite feeds and galleries, use Deep scan, which auto-scrolls a hidden copy of the page so lazy-loaded images get fetched.

How does the deep scan work?

Deep scan steps through the page, scrolling bit by bit so images that only load when they come into view get loaded. New finds are merged in live, and your scroll position is restored when it's done. You can cancel at any time.

Where do my downloads go?

By default, into your browser's Downloads folder. In settings you can pick any folder on disk, set a subfolder inside Downloads, and turn on per-site grouping so images are sorted into a folder named after the website automatically.

Note: when you choose a custom folder, files are written straight to disk and won't appear in Chrome's download bar, and you'll get a notification instead.

Can I rename the files?

Yes. Choose between the system name (pg_{number}_{name}.{format}), the original name from the image URL, or a custom name with an automatic counter ({name}_{number}.{format}).

Does PicGrab collect or send my data?

No. There's no analytics, no telemetry and no remote code. PicGrab runs entirely on your device and never sends your browsing or images anywhere. See the privacy policy for details.

Why does it need permission for all sites?

To find images on whatever page you open it on. The scanner is only injected when you actually ask for a scan, and there's no content script running on every page in the background. The only always-on piece is a passive journal of image responses for the current tab, which helps catch images loaded by JavaScript.

Are there pages where it won't work?

Browser system pages (chrome://, the Web Store, the PDF viewer, the new-tab page) are off-limits to all extensions, so PicGrab can't scan them (it'll tell you instead of failing). Cross-origin <canvas> images are blocked by the browser and can't be exported. For file:// pages, enable "Allow access to file URLs" on the extensions page.

Is there a keyboard shortcut?

Yes, Alt+Shift+P opens PicGrab on the current page. You can change it in your browser's extension shortcuts.
